Meet Report: WITNESS THE FULL POWER OF THE STONEHOUSE SPLASH SWIM TEAM!

    Splash Nation,

Before I begin, I want to add some clarifying info for the Summer Awards entries that are due by this weekend. The Meet is at First Colony Pool (by Jamestown) on Saturday the 27th of July. The 10&under swimmers go first in the morning starting at 8AM, and the 11&overs start around 1PM. The meet is usually over by 3-4PM. Please RSVP for this meet ASAP so we don't pay for swimmers who unavoidably cannot attend!

    With that behind me....

    HOW BOUT THEM SPLASH!!

Now THAT was the Splash Swim Team I have been waiting to see all summer! In case you didn't stay to the end or catch the score, Stonehouse trounced its way to a 282-204 win over a (previously) unbeaten Edgehill Eel team. Having seen us lose to Two Rivers a few weeks ago, I'm sure the Eels smelled blood in the water, but we were as close to full strength as we are probably going to get, and I doubt they saw that freight train coming. Let's go through a few of the notable swims I saw throughout the evening:

Metzfields, Where Have You Been All My Life (or at least this season)

The swimmer trio of Charlie, Cora, and Emma Metzfield was one of the stories of last season. Each was on the lower half of their age group, and each got pretty close to Champs times. This season, after spending a few months swimming with SwimRVA last fall and into the Spring, we had big visions. Due to a tough schedule of ballet, and Cora's rehearsals (for the upcoming Dogwood Dell Festival of the Arts performance of Matilda, in which she plays MATILDA), though, we haven't seen a lot of the Metzfields in meets until a couple of weeks ago. First Charlie came in and laid down three Champs times in 3 weeks. Then Emma came in this meet and brought the ACTION, swimming three Champs times that were almost the fastest in the pool!! Unfortunately, we won't see Cora, but are hopeful she will come back strong next season. Go see her in Matilda!

    Double/Triple Winners Everywhere!

When you have only three age groups where you do NOT have a double or triple winner, that usually means a big win for the good guys. Congrats to Matt Anderson (6&Under), Lily Watson (7-8), Graham Johnson (7-8), Philip Race (9-10), Joe Dill (11-12), Ana Shnowske (11-12), Lucas Tonk (13-14), Macey Johnson (13-14), and Kaitlyn Sullivan (15-18) who all won all of their events for their age group!

    Another First Time Qualifier!

In what must be a record, we have a fifth consecutive meet with a first-time champs qualifier. This week it was the aforementioned Emma Metzfield, who got three!!

The Little Kids are Putting it Together

As I'm sure will be demonstrated in my upcoming Monster Time Cuts report, our 10&under swimmers, in particular, are really hitting their stride. Time drops of 20, 30 even 40 seconds were happening all over the heat sheet. A shout out to the coaches for working so hard with your littlest ones!! It's hard to believe sometimes that some of these are the same kids we saw ready to drown on that first day of practice!!

Relay Swimmers Make Most of their Opportunity

Due to the large lead that we held going into the relays, we were able to play around with the relay lineups and give some swimmers who may not ordinarily get a chance to swim in the A relay a chance to shine. Taryn Farr, Dawson Randall, and Hannah Howard all helped their relay teams to great times, as we won 3 of 4 relays! We also went ahead and put in some exhibition relays, which came close to beating out Edgehill's A relays!! With the addition of Paul Olsen, Nolan Kline and Emma Metzfield to the Champs list, we now have 35 swimmers qualified for Champs. We also have 16 swimmers who have posted a time within 3 seconds of a champs time at some point in the season. And we have one swimmer who just swam a Champs time in the Fly on Monday who DQ'd, and we are confident we can fix the issue that DQ'd her, so count her in too!

Our quiet goal each season is to try and get half our swimmers into Champs, and if all those swimmers made it through, we would have exactly half!! So keep your kids working hard out there! With that, here is our full Champs listing and close calls list:
